A short history of The Journey Fellowship…
The Journey Fellowship began in June 2004 in the living room of Ryan and Amanda Abernathy. The idea was to begin a church that would meet people where they were and to walk together on a journey of faith in Jesus. What began as a gathering of 8 people has grown into a church, a community, a movement. That’s why we’re inviting you to come with us.
What’s in a name?
The Journey Fellowship was the name that Ryan, Amanda, Carl, and Beth picked out at Boot Camp in early 2004. As we talked through the week, we all became consumed with the idea that faith in Jesus was not a one stop moment but a life encompassing adventure- a journey, if you will. The discussion then turned to the disconnection many people feel in today’s culture, particularly in matters of faith. The journey of following Jesus was never meant to be undertaken alone. We are called to link together, to take on another along for the ride, in a community, a gathering- a fellowship to borrow from Tolkein- moving together to meet with Jesus. That’s who we are- The Journey Fellowship.
Is there a passage from the Bible that defines your church?
You bet. It’s Isaiah 61:1-4: "The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations."
Does Journey Fellowship have a mission statement?
Sort of. We have three stones that represent our mission:

We want to see people changed by the love of Jesus. We want to see families strengthened by the wisdom of Scripture. We want to see communities transformed into reflections of grace one home at a time.
